Vic: Strike action at Grand Prix site averted
Strike action at Melbourne's Grand Prix site may have been averted after reports that
track authorities have agreed to a union demand for better first aid facilities.
But the Communications, Electrical and Plumbing Union says the threat of a walk-out
by up to 250 workers today remains unless the authorities respond immediately.
CEPU organiser TONY MURRAY says workers from a number of unions unanimously agreed
on Tuesday to walk out today if their demands are not met.
They've asked for the first aid facilities -- located more than a kilometre away from
workers -- to be relocated to the workers' compound and to be equipped with a St John's
Ambulance kit.
Unionists also wanted a division between their work sites and the public, saying pedestrians
are being put at risk by the lack of restrictions.
