QLD: Woman drives as she breastfeeds, road toll climbs
BRISBANE, Dec 27 AAP - Police stopped a woman on Queensland's Sunshine Coast yesterday who
was driving with her seatbelt unfastened while breastfeeding a baby on her lap.
Eight people have died on the state's roads so far during the festive season, five fewer
than at the same stage last year but police said the woman highlighted that people were still
doing silly things on the road.
"We were a bit surprised when we heard about the woman driving while breast feeding her
baby," said Inspector Tony Lake, of the state's traffic support branch.
"The policeman who stopped her thought he'd seen everything until he saw that."
Queensland police have been targeting the "fatal four" this Christmas - drink driving,
speeding, failure to wear seatbelts and driving while tired in an effort to minimise the road
toll.
The state is heading for its lowest road toll in years, with 278 killed so far this year.
With four days left until the new year, the Queensland toll is 80 fewer than the same time
last year.
