SA: Balding avoids debate on individual ABC shows
ABC chief RUSSELL BALDING has avoided a debate on the merits of axing some shows andnot others, calling for a wider discussion on what is adequate funding for the nationalbroadcaster.
Mr BALDING visited the ABC studios in Adelaide today and met with staff of the axed,long-running children's television news program, Behind the News.
About 100 supporters of the show, including school children and parents, gathered outsidethe studios but missed the ABC managing director who entered through a side door.
Speaking later on ABC radio Mr BALDING said all cuts to ABC programs hurt and it wasnot just simply a matter of choosing one program over another.
He says the bigger question is whether or not the ABC is adequately funded to fulfilall its obligations.
Mr BALDING says he does not believe the ABC is adequately funded.
